Christmas Shoebox Project

Picture
Since 1993 Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritans Purse has sent over 1O3 million shoeboxes filled with gifts to children in need around the world. Each box is filled with school supplies, toys, hygiene items (no liquids please) that will bring smiles to the faces of children who live in poverty, orphanages, and or storm ravaged countries.

Varsity Quiz  2023-2024

We are getting ready for the 55th season of Varsity Quiz scheduled for the Fall of 2023. The Varsity Quiz program is patterned after a high school program that was being sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim. In 1969 a delegation from that club convinced the leadership of the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas to sponsor a similar program in Clark County. The Southern Nevada program was named Varsity Quiz, and is conducted within the Clark County School District (CCSD).  The initial matches between school teams are held at selected school campuses with members of the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas assisting as Judges, ending in December. The Finals are then held at Vegas PBS Channel 10 from January to March to determine championships and end with an All-Star fun match and the award of the  scholarship.
The Varsity Quiz Program is a continuing partnership between the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas, CCSD, and Vegas PBS TV-10

Anthony Gebbia
Spring Valley High School

Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas' Educator of the Year Program, starting in 1992, was the brainchild of Kiwanian Ned L. Jacobs.  The purpose of the program was to recognize outstanding educators at the secondary level in the Clark County School District (CCSD).  The inaugural Educator of the Year Awards was held on April 29, 1992, at the Port Tack Restaurant.  The 2019 awards presentation was at the Stratosphere Tower under the direction of Mark Segal, Educator of the Year Committee Chairman.  Due to Covid restrictions that was our last year for  the  Educator of the year project.

Club History - 98 Years of Service to Our Community

Picture
On December 4, 1925, the Las Vegas Kiwanis Club was born. Kiwanis meeting date and time was set for 12: 10 PM on Wednesdays and the day has never changed.
The first meeting was held at Las Vegas High School. The Kiwanis Club of San Bernardino was our sponsor. After that the meeting place became “The Beanery”, an unofficial name for the coffee shop at the Union Pacific Depot. Over the years the meeting location has changed but our mission has remained the same.
