Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas is part of a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.  To accomplish the Kiwanis International mission the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas sponsors five KEY Clubs in area high schools. KEY (Kiwanis Educating Youth) Club members learn important leadership skills and volunteerism.  By working together, members can achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone.  When you give a child the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow, succeed and  thrive, great things happen.

Celebrating a Century of Service: 100th Anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas
Founded December 4, 1925

This year, the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas proudly celebrates its 100th anniversary—a century of service, leadership, and dedication to the betterment of our community. Since our founding on December 4, 1925, we have continuously worked to uplift others, empower youth, and leave a lasting positive impact on Las Vegas.

Our legacy is filled with meaningful contributions to our community. The Kiwanis Varsity Quiz, for example, has nurtured academic excellence and teamwork among high school students, fostering a love for learning and healthy competition. Similarly, our founding of the Desert Demonstration Garden, now part of the Springs Preserve, underscores our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability education.

Fundraising has also been a vital part of our efforts, helping us sustain and expand our reach. From organizing Fourth of July fireworks booths that light up the summer nights to volunteering at concession stands during ballgames at Cashman Field, our members have combined fun, community engagement, and philanthropy in truly memorable ways. These initiatives not only raise funds for critical programs but also bring people together in the spirit of camaraderie and service.

Throughout the decades, our club has exemplified the Kiwanis spirit through projects like scholarships, mentorship programs, food drives, and other initiatives that directly support children and families. None of this would have been possible without the dedication and passion of our members—past and present—who have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others and strengthen our community.

As we commemorate our 100th anniversary, we honor the legacy of those who came before us and look ahead with renewed resolve to serve. The needs of our community may evolve, but our commitment to making a difference remains steadfast. Together, we will continue to inspire change and create a brighter future for generations to come.

Play-Off Winners

The 54th season of Varsity Quiz ended in February 2023 with Coronado High School, coached by Matt Aberman, as the winner of the Silver League, and Silverado High School, coached by Nick Pavlides, as the winner of the Blue League.  The Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas awarded each team $500.00 to be applied to the school's Varsity Quiz account.
The Annual Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas Howard Naylor Scholarship of $2000.00 was awarded to Coronado Senior Frank Abbeduto.

Varsity Quiz  2023-2024

We are getting ready for the 55th season of Varsity Quiz scheduled for the Fall of 2023. The Varsity Quiz program is patterned after a high school program that was being sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim. In 1969 a delegation from that club convinced the leadership of the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas to sponsor a similar program in Clark County. The Southern Nevada program was named Varsity Quiz, and is conducted within the Clark County School District (CCSD).  The initial matches between school teams are held at selected school campuses with members of the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas assisting as Judges, ending in December. The Finals are then held at Vegas PBS Channel 10 from January to March to determine championships and end with an All-Star fun match and the award of the  scholarship.
The Varsity Quiz Program is a continuing partnership between the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas, CCSD, and Vegas PBS TV-10

Some history of the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas in pictures!

Club History - 99 Years of Service to Our Community

Picture
On December 4, 1925, the Las Vegas Kiwanis Club was born. Kiwanis meeting date and time was set for 12: 10 PM on Wednesdays and the day has never changed.
The first meeting was held at Las Vegas High School. The Kiwanis Club of San Bernardino was our sponsor. After that the meeting place became “The Beanery”, an unofficial name for the coffee shop at the Union Pacific Depot. Over the years the meeting location has changed but our mission has remained the same.
